She is known for her unique way of telling stories. Many people call her writing mythical in tone. In 2019, she won the Nobel Prize in Literature. This is one of the highest honors for a writer. The prize recognized her ability to show how crossing boundaries is a way of life.

Her books are read by people all over the world. They have been translated into almost 40 different languages.

Tokarczuk uses many different styles to share her ideas. Sometimes she writes novels, which are long stories. Other times, she writes collections of poems or shorter prose. She even uses a "constellation" style in her book House of Day, House of Night. This means the book is a patchwork of many small stories and essays. These pieces connect in the reader's mind to create a bigger picture.

She later studied clinical psychology at the University of Warsaw. She even worked as a psychotherapist in cities like Wrocław and Wałbrzych. This study of the mind helps her write very deep characters. She eventually left her job as a psychologist to focus entirely on her literature.

Tokarczuk has won many important awards for her work. She won the Man Booker International Prize for her novel Flights.

This book explores how modern people move through time and space. She also won the Nike Award, which is the top literary prize in Poland. Her massive book, The Books of Jacob, was released in the UK in 2021. It took seven years of hard work just to translate it into English. This book tells a long story about history, religion, and many different lands.

Many of her stories are inspired by the places she has lived. She lives in the Sudetes mountains near the Polish-Czech border. This multicultural area shows up in her books, like the novel Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead.
