This revolution helped many people in rural areas find steady work. His work helped India become the world's largest milk producer by 1998. He believed that working together could solve many hard jobs for small farmers. His ideas even spread to other countries like the Philippines and Sri Lanka.

His plan worked through a system called a cooperative. In a cooperative, the dairy farmers are the actual owners of the business. They work together to collect, process, and sell their milk directly to people. This way, they did not need middlemen to take a part of their money.

Kurien and his partner, Tribhuvandas Patel, helped organize these village groups. By 1952, the amount of milk collected grew from 200 litres to 20,000 litres every day. This showed that the cooperative way was a great way to work.

Kurien had a very interesting path to becoming an engineer. He was born on 26 November 1921 in Calicut, India. He studied physics at Loyola College and graduated in 1940. Later, he went to Michigan State University in the United States. There, he earned a master's degree in mechanical engineering in 1948. He actually wanted to study metallurgical engineering instead. However, the government gave him a scholarship specifically for dairy engineering.

One big challenge was making milk products from buffalo milk. In India, buffalo milk was easy to find, but cow milk was harder to get. Kurien and H. M. Dalaya developed a way to make skimmed milk powder from it. This helped the brand Amul compete with big companies like Nestle.

In 1965, Kurien became the head of the National Dairy Development Board. This group helped spread the Amul model to many parts of India. By 1985, there were about 4.25 million milk producers in the system.

Because of his hard work, Kurien received many special honors. He won the Ramon Magsaysay Award in 1964. In 1989, he was given the World Food Prize. He also received the Padma Vibhushan, which is a very high honor in India.
