This color comes from tiny bits of rock in the water. The canyon is about 25 km long. It can be 700 meters deep. The walls are made of limestone. Many people come to visit this place.

You can drive around the rim of the gorge. You can also hike or rent a kayak. Many rock climbers love the high walls. There are 1,500 climbing routes there. Some routes are over 400 meters long. At the end of the canyon, the river flows into Lake Sainte-Croix. This lake was made by a dam. To make the lake, a village called Les Salles-sur-Verdon was destroyed in 1973. The new village is higher up the valley. It is the youngest village in France.
