Rain falls on these rocks over a long time. This wears the rocks away to make caves and rivers. Some rocks have sharp edges. People call these rocks tsingy. In the local language, this means "where one cannot walk barefoot."

The area has many deep canyons and caves. Some of these caves are very long. They are some of the longest in Africa. Many animals call this place home. You can find many types of lemurs here. Some lemurs live in the trees. People also found bones of large lemurs that lived long ago.

Many birds live here too. Some small birds hunt for bugs in groups. They work together to find food. This helps them catch more insects. Being in a group also keeps them safe from danger. This helps the birds stay alive in the wild.
