They are the smallest cattle in the world. This is in the Guinness Book of Records. One cow is about 87 cm tall. It weighs around 130 kg.

These cows are very special. They do not need much food to live. Yet, they still make milk. They can give up to 3 litres of milk a day. This milk is easy to digest. It has small fat parts. Some say the milk has medicine in it. It has a protein called lactoferrin. This protein helps fight germs. In Vechur milk, this protein is very strong.

These cows almost died out. This happened when people mixed them with other cows. A group of experts worked to save them. They started a conservation unit in 1989. Now, about 200 cows still exist. Nearly 100 of them live at a college. People also make ghee from their milk. Ghee is clarified butter. This butter is good for people who are getting well from being sick.
