The land in the park has many different shapes and feels. The central part of the valley is flat with fertile soil. This good soil is great for farming. Near the mountains, you can find dramatic scenery like waterfalls and hot springs. There are also mountain meadows and many different habitats. The weather here is a subarctic climate. This means it has cold winters and cool summers. Most of the 595 mm of yearly rain falls during the summer months.

The plants in the park change depending on how high you go. The middle parts of the mountains have Sayan montane conifer forests. People often call these taiga forests. They have trees like pine, cedar, and larch. These forests sit between the Siberian Taiga and the Mongolian Steppe. The lower areas have forest-steppe plants. At the very top, you will find tundra and alpine glades. There are over 900 kinds of plants in the park. Sadly, 43 of these are endangered species.

It has hotels, cafes, and baths for visitors. Most people in the valley are the indigenous Siberian Buryat people. Many travelers come here for outdoor adventures. They enjoy backpacking, kayaking, and rock climbing. Some people even come to go mountaineering in the high peaks.
