Trance

life science Maturity 11-13 Next article →

A trance is a special state of mind. In a trance, a person might not feel self-aware. They may not react to things around them. However, they can still work toward a goal. Sometimes, a trance happens on its own. Other times, a person can enter one on purpose.

One way to enter a trance is through focus. This is called intense attention. When you focus hard on one thing, your mind changes. It might change how it filters information. This can help the mind use its power better. Some people use trances to relax or find new ideas.

People use many ways to start a trance. Some use music or drums. This is called auditory driving. This means using sound to change how the brain works. Others use deep breathing or dance. Some people use prayer or meditation. Trances can even happen during dreams or while sleeping. Different cultures have their own special ways to do this. It is a very old way that people all over the world use.
