technology Maturity 11-13 Vital Level 2 Next article →

A tool is an object that helps us change our world. It can extend what a person is able to do. For example, a tool can help you finish a hard job. Most tools are solid objects you hold in your hand. They usually have one main purpose. This makes them different from a computer or a machine.

Tools help us modify the things around us. We can use them to change the shape or position of an object. This makes our work much more efficient.

Many tools work by using force in special ways. Cutting tools like axes or knives use a sharp edge. They use a shearing force to slice through things. Moving tools like hammers apply pressure to a surface. A hammer can move a nail by pushing on it. A screwdriver uses a turning force called torque to work.
