Etienne Decroux was a famous actor from France. He was a master of mime. Mime is a way of acting without using words. Instead, performers use their bodies to tell stories. Decroux made his own special style. He called it corporeal mime.

In this style, actors move one part of the body at a time. These are called isolations. He also studied how to keep balance. This helped actors move in new ways. His early work looked like stone statues. Later, his moves became more fluid.

Decroux was also a teacher. He taught many students in Paris and New York. Some of his students became very famous. These included Marcel Marceau and actress Jessica Lange. He even wrote a book called Words on Mime. In his book, he shared big ideas. He thought actors should learn to use their bodies first. He even suggested they stop using speech for a while. He wanted actors to be masters of movement. He believed the body could express everything. This helped change how people saw theatre.
