Behram was caught by guards in the 1830s. A man named Ramzan helped the British officials. Ramzan used to work under Behram. He led eight sepoys to a village called Sohanee. They found Behram at his house. He was sitting by a fire to stay warm. The guards seized him right there.

After he was caught, Behram talked to Captain James Paton. Paton was in charge of a campaign to stop the thugs. Behram told many stories about his life. He said he personally strangled about 125 men. He also said he saw 150 more people die. Later, he claimed to be near 931 murders.

Many people wonder if his numbers were true. Some historians think 931 was just a brag. They say it would be very hard to do that many killings. It would mean one death every five days for forty years. Most thugs only worked during the cold season. Guinness World Records still lists him as a very prolific murderer.

Behram had strong feelings about his work. He told Paton that a thug was like a king. He said a thug was the king of all other classes. He even said he despised common thieves. He claimed he would never steal from a banker. He only wanted to target travelers on their journeys.
