Thanos is a famous character from Marvel comic books. He is a very powerful being from the moon called Titan. He was created by a writer and artist named Jim Starlin. Thanos first appeared in a comic called The Invincible Iron Man #55 in February 1973. Many people know him as a villain because of his hard choices. He often fights famous heroes like the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy.

His story is filled with many different paths. As a young boy, Thanos was a pacifist, which means he did not like fighting. He mostly spent his time playing with his brother, Eros of Titan. As he grew up, he became interested in ideas about the end of things. He fell in love with a character named Mistress Death. In his world, she is the living embodiment of death.

Thanos uses many tools to gain power. He has used great scientific knowledge to increase his strength. He also uses magic and cybernetic enhancements, which are machine parts added to a body. One of his most famous stories is The Infinity Gauntlet from 1991. In this tale, he gathers six Infinity Gems. He puts them into a large glove to become all-powerful.

In that story, Thanos makes a very difficult choice. He uses the gems to kill half of all living things in the universe. He does this because he wants to impress Mistress Death. This huge event was later undone by characters named Nebula and Adam Warlock. Even though the life returned, the story remains very popular. It shows how much power the gems can hold.

Thanos has been part of stories for over fifty years. He has moved from comic books to movies and video games. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he has been played by actors like Damion Poitier and Josh Brolin. Brolin played him in many films like Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. This shows how a character created in the 1970s can still be important today.
