She lived during a time of big changes in the Pacific. Her name, Teri'itari'a, means "Carried-sovereign" in the Tahitian language. She was born around 1790 to a very important family. Her father was King Tamatoa III of Raiatea. Her mother was Tura’iari’i Ehevahine from Huahine. In her culture, titles often passed down to the first-born daughters. This gave Teriitaria a very special status from the start.

Her life changed a lot through marriage and politics. Around 1809, she married King Pōmare II of Tahiti. This marriage was meant to join two great royal lines together. It also helped the king gain military support from her family. Pōmare II was the successor to Pōmare I. The king's family was working to build a strong kingdom.

Even though she was married to the king, she also remained a leader in Huahine.

Teriitaria was known as a very brave and energetic leader. She was often described as an "Amazon queen" because of her courage. In 1815, she helped her husband in the Battle of Te Feipī. She personally led warriors into this important fight.

This battle helped the Pōmare family win control over Tahiti. After the victory, many people in the islands changed their religion to Christianity. Teriitaria and her husband were among those who joined the new faith. She was a strong supporter of these new ways.

She played a big role in ruling after her husband died in 1821. Since their children were young, she served as a regent. A regent is a person who rules on behalf of a king or queen. She helped rule for Pōmare III and later for Pōmare IV.

In 1832, she led forces to stop a rebellion in Tahiti. She also helped her niece during the Franco-Tahitian War from 1844 to 1847. In 1846, she fought at the Battle of Maeva to protect the islands.

Her later years were filled with many difficult shifts in power. In 1851, the people and leaders of Huahine removed her from her position.

They replaced her with a new leader named Ari'imate Teurura'i. Shortly after, she was sent away from the island in 1854. Teriitaria II died in 1858 in the town of Papeete, Tahiti. Her life shows how much one person can do to shape their world.
