Most tea comes from the leaves of a small plant called Camellia sinensis. This plant is an evergreen shrub that grows in East Asia. People love tea because it can taste many different ways. Some teas taste sweet, nutty, or like flowers. Other teas might taste like grass or even feel a bit bitter.

Tea also has caffeine, which can give people a boost of energy.

Making tea involves different ways of treating the leaves. To make green tea, people stir leaves in a hot, dry pan. Then they roll the leaves and let them dry in the air. This stops the leaves from turning dark.

For oolong tea, the leaves are only partially turned dark. Black tea is allowed to turn fully dark. Some people also make yellow tea. This was discovered by accident during the Ming dynasty. In the past, people even steamed and pounded tea into hard cakes. They would then boil these chunks in water to drink.

Tea has a very long and interesting history. Long ago, people in East Asia ate the leaves in many ways. They might eat them raw or add them to soups. Some people even chewed the leaves like a snack.
