Taxidermy is the art of preserving an animal's body. The name comes from Greek words for "skin" and "arrangement."

A person who does this is called a taxidermist. They use skills like sculpture and painting to make animals look lifelike. This is often called mounting.

Museums use taxidermy to study nature. They use life-size mounts to show animals that are rare or even extinct.

Some people also use it to remember a pet.

Taxidermy can also be a type of art. In the past, some artists made funny scenes. They might dress animals in clothes or show them doing human tasks.

One artist made a scene with rabbits in a school. Another made squirrels that looked like they were boxing.

Today, there is also "rogue taxidermy." This is a type of mixed media sculpture. It can use real parts or even just fake materials. It can look like a real animal or something totally new, like a griffin.
