It is made for an orchestra. An orchestra is a large group of musicians. They play many kinds of instruments. This group includes strings like violins. It also has brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments. An orchestra can have 30 to 100 players.

Most symphonies have several parts. We call these parts movements. Many symphonies have four movements. Some have only three. A composer writes all the music in a score. This is a master book of music. Each player also has their own part to read.

In the past, symphonies were often small. They might only use string instruments. Later, composers added horns and oboes. They even added flutes and trumpets. Some famous composers wrote many symphonies. Joseph Haydn wrote at least 106 of them. Mozart wrote at least 47. Beethoven made the symphony even more grand. He wrote the famous Fifth Symphony. He also wrote the Ninth Symphony. That one uses a choir to sing. This makes the music very powerful and special.
