Stallone holds a unique place in box-office history. He is one of only two actors to star in a number one film across six consecutive decades. This distinction puts him alongside actor Harrison Ford. The films in which he has appeared have grossed over $7.5 billion worldwide. His career shows a transition from a struggling actor to one of Hollywood's highest-paid stars. This journey involved many different types of roles and genres. He has moved between action, comedy, and drama throughout his life.

Stallone's early life was marked by significant physical challenges. He was born on July 6, 1946, in New York City's Hell's Kitchen.

During his birth, medical complications occurred. Obstetricians used two pairs of forceps to deliver him. This accidentally severed a nerve. The injury caused paralysis on the lower left side of his face. This affected his lip, tongue, and chin. This condition resulted in his signature snarling look and slurred speech. These traits became part of his unique identity as a performer.

His path to success was defined by persistence through extreme hardship. In 1969, Stallone moved to New York City to pursue acting. He faced severe financial struggles during this period. At one low point, he was homeless and slept in the Port Authority bus station for three weeks. He took odd jobs to survive, such as cleaning a zoo and working as a theater usher. He even acted in a softcore film called The Party at Kitty and Stud's for two days of pay.

He used his time in the library to improve his writing skills.

His major breakthrough came through his work as a writer and actor. In 1976, he released the film Rocky, which he also wrote. The story followed a boxer named Rocky Balboa. Stallone insisted on playing the lead role himself. He refused to sell the script to studios unless he was cast as the star. This decision led to massive critical and commercial success. In 1977, he became the third actor in history to be nominated for Academy Awards for both Best Actor and Best Original Screenplay.
