Suva has a long and interesting history. In 1868, it was just a small village. A leader named Seru Epenisa Cakobau gave land there to a company. In 1877, the capital was moved to Suva from Levuka. Levuka was hard to grow because of steep mountains.

A man named Colonel F. E. Pratt designed the new capital. Suva officially became a city in October 1952.
