In 2004, they even formed a joint venture called Sony BMG. This was a 50-50 partnership with a company from Germany called Bertelsmann. Sony eventually bought out Bertelsmann to take full control again in 2008. They also manage the rights to songs through their publishing arm. This helps ensure that the people who write music are recognized. They even use special tools like cutting lathes to make vinyl records.

The story of this company began a very long time ago. It was founded way back in 1929 as the American Record Corporation. This company grew by joining together several other smaller record businesses. In 1938, a group called the Columbia Broadcasting System bought it. They changed the name to Columbia Recording Corporation for a while. Later, in 1966, the company was reorganized as CBS Records. Sony finally bought the company in 1988 for 2 billion dollars. They officially used the name Sony Music Entertainment starting in 1991.

There are many interesting facts about how Sony operates globally. In 1953, they launched the famous Epic Records label. By 1962, they had four different production plants across the United States. These plants were located in places like California and New Jersey. Sony also has a strong presence in the United Kingdom. Their UK office was founded in January 1980. In 2014, their artists had a very successful year with 11 number one singles. They even won five awards at the 2015 BRIT music awards.

You can see how Sony connects to many things you know. They help produce the music you hear on the radio or streaming. They even work with famous talent shows like Got Talent. From 2009 to 2020, Sony owned part of Syco Entertainment. They also make podcasts to tell stories through audio. This is done through their global podcast division with offices in London. Whether it is a digital song or a spinning vinyl record, Sony is part of the music experience.
