His name can mean "He has perfected me." Some people also called him Soris. Later generations thought he was a "beneficent" king. This means he was a kind and helpful ruler.

Sneferu was famous for being a great builder. He worked on many huge stone structures. He is known for building at least three pyramids.

These buildings changed how people made tombs. His work helped move from stepped shapes to smooth sides. This was a big step in building technology. He used new ways to make the stone stay strong. These ideas helped later builders make even larger monuments.

His first big project was the pyramid at Meidum. It began as a seven-stepped structure. Later, workers added a platform and smooth limestone facing.

This made it look like a "true" pyramid. The burial chamber was built inside the main body. This was different from older tombs built underground. It showed a new way to design a king's resting place. This helped set a pattern for future Egyptian kings.

Next, Sneferu built the Bent Pyramid at Dahshur. This pyramid has a very unique shape. The angle of the sides changes halfway up.

It starts at 55 degrees and then becomes 43 degrees. Builders likely changed the angle to keep it stable. They laid the top layers horizontally to help it stay up. This pyramid also had much larger underground chambers. It even had a special satellite pyramid nearby.

His final project was the Red Pyramid at Dahshur.

This pyramid has a simpler design than the others. It does not have the same complex internal parts. Some people think secret chambers might still be hidden inside. Experts are not sure how long he ruled. Some say 24 years, but others think it was over 30.

His son, Khufu, would later build the Great Pyramid.
