A setter is a special type of dog. They are gundogs. This means they help people find game birds like quail or pheasant.

Setters have a very smart way of hunting. They search for birds using their sense of smell. They carry their heads high to catch scents in the air. When a setter finds a bird, it does not chase it. Instead, the dog stops moving. It stays very still in a crouch. This special stance is why we call them setters.
