Scylax went on a big trip for the king. This trip lasted thirty months. He sailed down the Indus River. Then he sailed around the Arabian peninsula. Some people think he was spying for the king. He was checking the land for future wars. After his trip, the king added these new lands to his empire. He called this area Hinduš.

Scylax wrote a book about his travels. We do not have the full book today. We only have a few quotes from it. His book told stories about the land and the people. Some stories sounded like myths. One story was about people who lived in caves. Another story was about people with only one eye.

Even if some stories were strange, his work was very important. It helped give the land of India its name.
