Factories and ships make exhaust gas. This gas can have bad things in it. These things can be dust or harmful gases. Scrubbers help remove them. One kind of scrubber is a wet scrubber. It uses a liquid to wash the gas. Water is the most common liquid used. It can catch dust and certain gases. This works well for gases like ammonia. Some wet scrubbers can also catch heat. This heat can be used to warm homes.

Another kind is a dry scrubber. These do not make the gas wet. They use a dry material to clean the air. This material is called a sorbent. It reacts with acid gases to make solid salts. These salts are then caught and removed. Dry scrubbers are good for stopping bad smells too.

There is also an adsorber. This uses a special material to grab chemicals. The gas passes through a part filled with this material. The material must be replaced when it is full. Scrubbers are very helpful for our world. They help keep the air and water cleaner.
