Some scams are very fast. They may take only a few minutes. A long con is different. It can last for many weeks. A team of people might work together. They may use costumes or scripts to trick people. They want to take a large amount of money.

Scammers use many steps to succeed. They might start by studying a person. They then approach them to build trust. Sometimes they give a small prize to show the trick works. This is called a convincer. They may also use a "shill." A shill is a helper who pretends to be a normal person.

Today, many scams happen on the internet. In 2021, the FBI got many reports of online fraud. People lost billions of dollars. Many countries have groups to help stop these tricks.
