Kidnapping is a crime. It happens when someone moves a person to a new place against their will. This can happen using force or fear. Sometimes, people use tricks or lies to take someone.

Many people have different reasons for doing this. One common reason is ransom. A ransom is money paid to let a person go. Some large groups use kidnapping to get money. In some places, gangs use it to make money from travelers. Other groups use it to show their power.

There are also other ways this happens. "Tiger kidnapping" is when a person is forced to commit a crime. "Virtual kidnapping" is a scam. In this scam, a caller lies on the phone. They make people believe a loved one is in danger. No one is actually taken, but people still lose money.

Laws about kidnapping are different in every country. In Australia, it is a serious crime. In Canada, people can face life in prison. In Mexico, the prison time can be very long. These laws help protect people and keep them safe.
