Robert Guérin was a man who helped shape the world of football. He was born on April 28, 1876, in France. Guérin worked as a journalist for a newspaper called Le Matin. He also worked for the Union of French Athletic Sports Societies. In that group, he was the secretary for the football department. This role helped him connect with many people who loved the sport. He used his skills to bring different groups together.

Guérin played a major role in starting FIFA. FIFA stands for the Fédération Internationale de Football Association. He helped bring together leaders from seven different countries. They all met in the city of Paris. These leaders signed a foundation act to start the group. They also signed an agreement for the first FIFA statutes. These statutes were the first set of rules for the organization.

History shows us how much Guérin cared about the game. On May 23, 1904, a big meeting called the inaugural FIFA Congress took place. Guérin was only 28 years old at that time. The leaders elected him to be the very first president of FIFA. He led the group for two years. His leadership helped set the stage for how football is run today.

During his time as president, the group grew very quickly. Eight more associations joined FIFA while he was in charge. One of these important groups was the Football Association. This growth showed that people from many places wanted to be part of the group. Guérin's work helped the organization move from seven members to many more. He worked hard to make sure the new group had a strong start.

We can see Guérin's legacy in every major football match today. Without his work in Paris, the way countries play together might be different. He was a bridge between different sports groups and nations. He used his job as a journalist to help spread the word. His life shows how one person can help start something huge. He lived until March 19, 1952.
