He is most famous for helping to create the FIFA World Cup. This is a huge tournament where teams from all over the world play against each other. Because of his hard work, a special trophy was named the Jules Rimet Trophy to honor him. People remember him as the man who helped bring the world together through sports. His efforts were so great that he was even nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 1956.

To make the World Cup happen, Rimet had to work very hard. He was the third president of FIFA, which is the group that runs football. He served as president for 33 years from 1921 to 1954. This was the longest time any president has ever served in that role. During his time, he helped the group grow from only 12 nations to 85 different nations. He also led the French Football Federation for many years during and after the First World War.

His journey started a long time ago in eastern France. He was born in 1873 in a place called Theuley. His father worked as a grocer, and the family moved to Paris when Jules was eleven. As a young man, he became a lawyer and started a sports club in 1897. He called this club Red Star. He wanted the club to be fair to everyone, no matter how much money they had.

The very first World Cup took place in 1930.

It was held in the country of Uruguay. Rimet actually traveled to Uruguay on a ship called the SS Conte Verde. He even carried the trophy in his bag during the trip! Some European countries did not want to play at first because the trip was so long. Only four European teams, like France and Belgium, went to the first games. Later, the tournament grew much larger as more countries joined in.

The story of the trophy is quite exciting and strange.

The original Jules Rimet Trophy was stolen twice. Once, before the 1966 World Cup in England, a dog named Pickles found it! In 1970, the Brazil team won the tournament for the third time. Because they won so many times, they were allowed to keep the trophy forever. The trophy was stolen again in Rio de Janeiro in 1983. People still wonder today what happened to it.
