Some people believe he lived millions of years ago. Other scholars look at his story as part of ancient history. He is one of five teachers who receive the most worship today.

His life followed five special stages called the pancha kalyanaka. These stages include his pregnancy, birth, and becoming a monk. They also include gaining special knowledge and reaching liberation.

These dreams showed that a great leader was coming. He grew up to be a king with a very large family. He had two wives named Sumangala and Sunanda. He also had many children, including ninety-nine sons and a daughter named Brahmi.

As a king, Rishabhanatha was a teacher of many things.

Long ago, people lived in a time of great happiness. They used magical trees to get what they needed. But as time passed, these trees became less helpful. Rishabhanatha taught people how to work to support themselves. He taught six main jobs like farming, writing, and trade. He also taught skills like using fire and cooking. He is even credited with teaching seventy-two sciences to men. This helped people move into an age of action.

One day, a dancer named Nilanjana died during a royal show.

This event made Rishabhanatha think about how life changes quickly. He decided to leave his kingdom and his wealth behind. He became a monk to seek deep truth. He traveled for a long time without eating any food. He went for 400 days without food at all. Later, his great-grandson Shreyansa brought him sugarcane juice. This special day is still celebrated by Jains as Akshaya Tritiya. It marks the start of how people offer food to monks.

After much quiet thought, he reached a state called omniscience. This means he gained perfect knowledge of everything.
