Long ago, people studied it as a key part of learning. It was grouped with grammar and logic.

Famous thinkers had many views on it. Aristotle said it helps you find the best way to persuade. He believed it could be used in three ways. One way is for politics. Another is for court cases. The third is for ceremonies.

Some people, like Plato, were worried about it. He thought it could be used to trick people. He felt it was like tasty food that is not healthy.

But others saw it as a civic art. This means it helps a community work well. Isocrates thought it could shape a person's character. Today, rhetoric is everywhere. It is in science, art, and news. It is even in how we use symbols to connect with others.
