Logos is an old Greek word.

It can mean many things. It often means reason, logic, or order. It can also mean speech or words.

Many thinkers use this word. Heraclitus used it to describe a principle of order. He thought it linked human thought to the world. The Stoics also used the term. They believed a divine reason moved the whole universe. They called this the logos spermatikos. This was a law that helped things grow.

Aristotle used the word in a new way. He used it to talk about persuasion. He said logos is an argument based on reason. He paired it with two other ideas. One was ethos, which is trust in a speaker. The other was pathos, which uses feelings.

Religions also use the word. In Christianity, the Logos is a name for Jesus Christ. The Gospel of John says the Logos is divine. Philo was a Jewish thinker who also used the term. He said the logos helps hold all things together. It acts as a bridge between God and the world.
