Resurrection is the idea of coming back to life after death.

This is different from reincarnation. Reincarnation is when a soul enters a new body.

Many ancient religions held this belief. In Egypt, people spoke of gods who died and rose again. In Greece, some stories tell of people made immortal.

Some people even thought a person could disappear and reappear alive.

In Christianity, the resurrection of Jesus is a central focus. Most Christians believe he rose in a material body. However, some groups believe he rose as a spirit.

The Bible also tells of Jesus raising others, like Lazarus. Some followers also believed saints could help the dead rise.

Other traditions have similar ideas. In Buddhism, some Zen stories show the power of resurrection. In Hinduism, the idea of rebirth is called saṃsāra. Today, some people study cryonics. This is a way to try to save bodies for the future. But science cannot bring the dead back to life yet.
