It is known for being immortal. This means it lives forever. Many stories say the bird is born again. It rises from its own ashes.

Some legends say it dies in bright flames. Others say it simply burns and then starts a new life.

This bird is often linked to the sun. Because of this, many old paintings show the phoenix with a halo. A halo is a ring of light around the head. People have different ideas about how the bird looks. Some say it is red and yellow. Others say it has blue eyes like sapphires. Some thinkers say it is as big as an eagle. Other stories say it is even larger than an ostrich.

Many cultures have birds that are like the phoenix. In China, there is a bird called the Fenghuang. In Persia, there is a bird called the simorgh. These stories show how much people wonder about rebirth.
