Christians believe God raised Jesus from the dead. This happened on the third day after he died. They believe he rose with a new, holy body.

This event is a central mystery of their faith. It is the reason they celebrate Easter.

Many stories in the New Testament talk about this. These books tell of an empty tomb. They also describe how Jesus appeared to his followers. One story says a young man in white spoke to women at the tomb.

Another story says Jesus appeared to his apostles on a mountain. After this, he went up to heaven.

Other groups have different views. Judaism teaches that Jesus' body was stolen. Some people in Gnosticism believe only the soul is raised. Islam teaches that Jesus went directly to God. Scholars also study these stories in different ways. Some look at them as part of history. Others see them as matters of faith.
