Simoni's life was not always easy for him. He was born in the city of Verona in 1875. When he was only four years old, his father died. Simoni had to become the provider for his whole family. He took care of his mother and his sister. For a few years, he worked as a private teacher. He gave lessons in Latin to help pay for food. Sometimes his family was very poor. They even went to a monastery kitchen to get food from monks.

He started his career as a journalist when he was 19. A journalist is a person who writes news stories. He worked for newspapers called L'Adige and L'Arena. In 1899, he moved to the big city of Milan. He wrote many great comedies during his time there. Some of these plays were La Vedova in 1902. He also wrote Carlo Gozzi in 1903. Other plays included Tramondo in 1906 and Congedo in 1910. He even wrote a play called Il matrimonio di Casanova.

Simoni held many important jobs in the world of news. In 1914, he began working for the Corriere della Sera newspaper. He replaced a man named John Pozza there. He worked for this company until he died in 1952. He also helped run a weekly magazine called La Tradotta. Simoni loved books and collecting them very much. In 1952, he gave 40,000 books to the Museum of La Scala. He dedicated these books to his mother, Livia. The library there is now called Biblioteca Livia Simoni.
