An opera is a special kind of musical story. To make an opera, a writer must create a libretto. A libretto is the text or the words for the music. Adami was a master at writing these words. He worked with many different composers to make music come alive. He wrote librettos for Riccardo Zandonai for La via della finestra in 1919. He also wrote for Franco Vittadini for Anima allegra in 1921. He even wrote for Nazareth in 1925.

Adami was born in the city of Verona. He went to the University of Padua to study law. Even though he learned law, he chose a different path. He devoted his career to writing and music journalism. In October 1912, he published a play called La leggenda valacca. This play was in a magazine called La Lettura. He later worked with a group called Casa Ricordi. He stayed with this publishing house until his death.

His most famous work was with the composer Giacomo Puccini. They were a great team that made many famous operas. They worked together on La bohème in 1917. They also made Il tabarro in 1918. Their last big project together was Turandot in 1926. After Puccini died, Adami wanted to share his friend's story. In 1928, he published a collection of Puccini's letters. He wrote two books about Puccini's life in 1935 and 1942.

Adami's life shows how one person can love many arts. He moved between the worlds of law, theater, and music. He wrote many plays like Capelli bianchi in 1915. One play, Nonna Felicità from 1936, even became a film. He wrote for magazines like La sera and La commedia. Adami lived in Milan for much of his life. He died in Milan when he was 67 years old. He rests in the Cimitero Monumentale di Milano.
