To make a raisin, the water must leave the grape. This is hard because grape skin has wax. This wax keeps water inside. Workers use a few steps to dry them. First, they use a pre-treatment. This helps the water move out faster. Some people use the sun to dry grapes. Others use machines called dehydrators. These machines keep the heat steady. One way is microwave drying. This makes puffed raisins.

After drying, plants wash the raisins with water. This removes dirt or stems. Then, they dry them one more time. Turkey, China, Iran, and the United States make many raisins. You can eat them raw or in baked treats.
