Qualitative research

society Maturity 11-13 Next article →

Qualitative research is a way to study people. It does not use many numbers. Instead, it looks at words and ideas. Researchers want to know what people think. They want to know why people act in certain ways. This helps them understand how we see the world.

There are many ways to gather this data. One way is through interviews. An interviewer asks questions to a person. This can feel very personal. Another way is through focus groups. This is when a researcher talks to a group of people. Some researchers use participant observation. This means they join in on activities to learn about a culture. They might even use books or art to learn.

Researchers must study the data they find. They use a way called coding. Coding means finding meaningful ideas in the data. They look for patterns to help explain things. They can use computer programs to help them work faster. These tools help them store and find their notes. This type of study is used in many fields. It helps people in science, schools, and even software design.
