Qalyubia is a special place in Egypt. It is a governorate located in Lower Egypt. This area sits in the Nile Delta region. It is just north of the city of Cairo.

The capital city of this region is Banha. Some towns like Shubra El Kheima are very close to Cairo. These areas blend together to form part of Greater Cairo. This makes the region feel very busy and connected.

Many different things happen in Qalyubia. The land is used for farming many different crops. Farmers grow maize, wheat, and cotton here. They also grow tasty fruits like oranges, bananas, and apricots.

Qalyubia is also a leader in Egypt for poultry and eggs. Besides farming, there are also industrial zones. These are areas with many factories. You can find the El Sherouq Industrial Zone in Abu Zaabal. There is also the El Safa Industrial Zone and the El Aqrasha Industrial Zone.

The name of this place has a very old story. Qalyubia gets its name from the city of Qalyub. This name comes from Calliope. In Greek mythology, Calliope was the Muse of epic poetry.

This connects the land to ancient history. The region has changed a lot over many years. In 1981, there were many water projects in the villages. Later, in 2012, the European Union helped the area. They spent 40 million Euros to fix the infrastructure. This helped improve the way things work in many local areas.

Lots of people call Qalyubia their home. In January 2024, the population was about 6,217,766 people.

Many people live in cities and towns. Other people live in rural areas. In 2015, more people lived in the country than in the cities. There are many different types of towns. Some are called markaz and some are called kism. Towns like Khanka, Banha, and Qalyub are all part of this area. Each town has its own number of people living there.

Qalyubia is an important part of the Egyptian landscape. It links the big city of Cairo to the Nile Delta. You can see how the farms meet the busy cities. The mix of food growing and factories working is very important. It shows how people live and work in Egypt today.

Whether you look at the history or the farms, there is much to see. The region stays busy with many people and many jobs.
