Pumpuang Duangjan was a famous singer from Thailand. Many people call her the "Queen of Luk Thung." Luk Thung is a type of Thai country music.

She was a very special artist. Her music brought joy to millions of fans. She also acted in many different movies. People still celebrate her talent today.

Pumpuang had a very busy career. She sang many different songs. She even made a new kind of music. This style was called electronic luk thung. It was a version of country music made for dancing.

She also acted in films like "Nun" and "Charming Singer." She released many albums between 1982 and 1992. These included albums like "Duang Tah Duang Jai" and "Klom."

Her life started in a very humble way. She was born on August 4, 1961. Her parents were poor farmers. Pumpuang only went to school for two years. She had to work in the fields as a child. She worked as a sugar cane cutter to help her family.

Even though she could not read, she had a great memory. She could learn all the song words by heart. This helped her do well in singing contests.

Her big break happened when she was 15 years old. A visiting band called Waiphot Phetsuphan noticed her. Her fame grew very fast starting in the late 1970s.

Her songs often told stories about poor people in rural Thailand. However, her career had some hard times. Some people in charge took her money away. This meant she could not afford medicine for a sickness called lupus. She died from this illness on June 13, 1992. She was only 30 years old.

Pumpuang left a huge mark on her country. Because of her, many people learned about lupus. In Thailand, people sometimes call it "Pumpuang's disease."

She is still remembered as a great star. In 2018, Google honored her with a special Doodle. This was on what would have been her 57th birthday. A movie about her life was even made in 2011. It was called "The Moon."
