Pumpuang Duangjan was a famous singer in Thailand. Many people call her the "Queen of Luk Thung." This is a type of Thai country music.

She was born to poor farmers. As a child, she worked in the fields. She cut sugar cane to help her family. Pumpuang could not read or write. But she was very good at learning song words by heart. She joined many singing contests. At age 15, a band noticed her talent. Her fame grew very fast after that.

Her songs often told stories about poor people in the country. She made a new style called electronic luk thung. This style was made for dancing. She also acted in many movies.

Pumpuang died at age 30 from a sickness called lupus. This sickness made many people in Thailand learn about the disease. Some people even call it "Pumpuang's disease." People still honor her today. In 2018, Google made a special art piece for her.
