A pull-up is a strong move for your upper body.

It is a way to use your own weight to get stronger. You hang from a bar using your hands. Most people hold the bar wider than their shoulders. You pull your whole body up toward the bar. This move helps build many different muscles. It works your back, your shoulders, and your arms.

There are many ways to perform this movement. You can use a pronated grip with your palms facing down. You can also use a supinated grip with palms facing you. This version is often called a chin-up. Some people use a neutral grip or a rotating grip. You can even do a muscle-up. This is a harder move that turns into a dip.

Some people use a kipping style to move faster. This uses a swing to help you do more repetitions.

To do a pull-up, you start by hanging from the bar. You then pull your body up in a straight line. You move until your chin is over the bar. Sometimes people pull even higher until their chest touches the bar.

After you reach the top, you slowly lower yourself back down. You must lower your body until your arms are fully straight again. This full movement is how the exercise works.

People use pull-ups for many different jobs and sports. They are often used in fitness tests for the military and police.

These jobs need people to have great pulling strength. Athletes in rock climbing and gymnastics also use them. Some people use machines or bands to help them. This makes the move easier for beginners. It helps them build the strength to do a real pull-up later.

Amazing people have set huge records with this exercise. Kenta Adachi from Japan set a record in 2022. He did 651 pull-ups in 87 minutes. In 2024, he did even more with 1224 pull-ups!
