Pratinas was a famous writer in ancient Greece. He lived a long time ago. He lived in a place called Phlius. Pratinas wrote many different kinds of plays. He also wrote songs for large groups to sing.

He was known for a big change in theater. Before him, funny parts were mixed into serious plays. This could feel strange to the audience. Pratinas made a new way. He gave the funny parts their own stage. These were called satyr plays. They featured Satyrs, who were silly characters. These characters loved to dance and play.

People thought his fun plays were very good. Some said they were almost as good as Aeschylus. He wrote many plays in total. One source says he wrote fifty plays. Most of those were the fun satyr plays.

Pratinas also cared about music. He wrote songs called dithyrambs. He also wrote choral odes called hyporchemata. These were songs meant for dancing. He even wrote about music in his poems. He did not like when loud flutes drowned out the singers. He wanted the music to sound a certain way. His son, Aristias, was also a great writer of plays.
