These spiders live in many warm places like India, China, and the Philippines. They have a body that is orange-brown in the front and brownish in the back. Scientists call them "eight-legged cats" because they hunt in many different ways. Just like a lion, they can change how they act to catch food. This makes them much more clever than many other spiders. They are very important to study because they show how smart small creatures can be.

This spider uses its amazing eyes to find its way and catch prey.

It has eight eyes in total on its head. The two large ones in the front are called principal eyes. These eyes are very sharp and can see better than a cat's during the day. They can even see things ten times better than a dragonfly can! The other six eyes are secondary eyes that help the spider find movement. These eyes help the spider see things up to 75 centimeters away. Because it has such good vision, it can find the best paths to its food.

Learning how to hunt is a big part of being a *Portia labiata*. Most jumping spiders just find an insect and jump on it. But these spiders can use trial and error to solve problems.

If they try a new way to catch something and it works, they remember it. Some females even build funnel-shaped webs to catch prey directly. They can even attach their own webs to the webs of other spiders. This allows them to trick other spiders into coming closer. They might pluck a web to lure a prey out or move slowly to look like a leaf.

Different groups of these spiders show us how they learn in different places.

For example, spiders from Los Baños in the Philippines hunt differently than those from Sagada. The Los Baños spiders use more trial and error to vibrate a web. They do this to distract or lure the prey toward them. In areas where a certain type of sticky spider lives, *Portia* spiders learn to walk around them. They use clever tricks to sneak up on their meals from behind. This shows that their hunting skills can change based on where they live.

Understanding this spider helps us see how many different ways life can work.

You might know that cats are good hunters, but these spiders are like tiny, eight-legged versions. They use senses like smell and vibration to understand the world around them. Even though they are small, they can handle very big challenges. They use silk lines to mark their territory just like some animals use scents. Watching how they solve problems is like watching a tiny puzzle being put together. It reminds us that even the smallest living things have amazing abilities.
