This spider has amazing vision. It has eight eyes in total. Two large eyes in the front are called principal eyes. These eyes see better than a cat's during the day. They help the spider hunt and find its way. The other six eyes are secondary eyes. They help the spider detect movement.

*Portia* spiders are very smart hunters. People call them "eight-legged cats." This is because they use many different ways to hunt. They can try new steps to catch prey. If a new way works, they remember it.

Some females build funnel-shaped webs to catch food. They can even join their webs to other spiders' webs. They use these webs to trick other spiders. A female might pluck a web to lure prey. She can also move slowly to look like a piece of leaf. This helps her sneak up on her meal.
