You can spot a Scots pine by its look. It has blue-green needles. These needles grow in small groups of two. The bark is orange-red when the tree is young. As it grows older, the bark turns gray-brown. The tree often has a long, straight trunk. The top part has a round mass of green leaves.

These trees can live for a very long time. Most live between 150 and 300 years. Some very old trees in Finland lived over 760 years! They make small seed cones. These cones start out red. Later, they turn brown and release black seeds.

People use the wood for many things. It is used for building and making paper. In the past, it was even used to make tar. Some people use these trees as Christmas trees. In North America, they can sometimes grow too fast and take over new areas.
