Many stars in Pictor have planets. One star is called Beta Pictoris. It has a disk of dust around it. It also has two exoplanets. Exoplanets are planets that orbit other stars. Another star, HD 40307, has six super-Earth planets. A super-Earth is a planet larger than Earth.

Some stars in Pictor act in strange ways. RR Pictoris is a variable star. This means its brightness changes. In 1925, it flared up as a nova. A nova is a bright flash from a star.

There are also very big things in Pictor. Pictor A is a radio galaxy. It has a supermassive black hole at its center. This black hole shoots out a long jet of plasma. This jet is 800,000 light-years long!
