It lives in the Sculptor constellation. This galaxy is a starburst galaxy. That means it is making many new stars right now.

Scientists think a small galaxy hit it long ago. This crash happened 200 million years ago. The hit made the galaxy very busy. It also moved the gas and dust around.

Dark dust lanes hide some parts of the galaxy. These lanes are very complex.

A huge black hole sits in the center. It is a supermassive black hole. It is five million times heavier than our Sun.

Big stars also make a superwind. This wind blows material out into space. This happens because of stellar winds and dying stars.

You can see this galaxy with binoculars. It is one of the easiest spiral galaxies to see. Many small satellite galaxies also orbit near it. Some of these small galaxies might not stay for long. They may crash into the main galaxy soon.
