The highest point is Khao Mai Thao Sip Song, which is quite tall. About 60% of the island is covered in green forests and plantations. You can find many rubber and palm oil farms there. The west coast has lovely sandy beaches like Kamala and Patong. The east coast is different because it has mostly muddy beaches.

Phuket has a very long and busy history. Long ago, it was a major stop on a trading path between India and China.

Ships from Portugal, France, the Netherlands, and England all visited the island. In the 1600s, many countries competed to trade for the island's tin. The name Phuket likely comes from the Malay word "Bukit," which means hill. This is because the island looks like a hill from far away.

In 1785, two sisters named Chan and Mook helped protect the land. They led the women to dress as soldiers to trick an attacking army.

Many different things have helped the province grow over time. In the past, most of the wealth came from mining tin and making rubber.

Later, the province became a major center for tourism. Now, most people earn money by welcoming visitors to the beaches. The population has grown very fast in recent years. In 2010, there were over 525,000 people living there. Some estimates say there are even more people living in the area today.

This makes the province a very diverse place to live. The island has faced hard times, like a big tsunami in 2004.

It also dealt with the COVID-19 pandemic which affected many businesses. Despite these challenges, Phuket remains a very important part of Thailand. It continues to be a place where people from all over the world meet.
