Some waterfalls, like the Na Muang falls, are very popular with visitors. A long road goes all the way around the coast. This road connects the lowland areas to the seaside towns.

People have lived on Ko Samui for a very long time. Some say fishermen arrived there in the 6th century. However, old bronze drums suggest people lived there over 2,000 years ago. In the 1300s, the island helped trade goods between China and India. Later, Chinese immigrants moved there to start coconut and cotton farms.

During World War II, the island was used as a base for the Japanese military. This time was difficult, and some shipwrecks may still lie in the water.

Today, Ko Samui is a very famous place for travelers. In 2018, about 2.7 million tourists visited the island.

In the past, the island was isolated and had no roads. It was hard to travel through the central jungles. Now, there is an airport to help people arrive easily.
