Blaise Pascal was a French thinker.

He lived from 1623 to 1662. He had an idea called Pascal's wager. He said that people cannot avoid making a choice about God. We are already living our lives. This means we must make a bet.

Pascal said we should weigh our gains and losses. He thought that believing in God is the best bet. If God is real, a believer gains an endless, happy life. This is a prize that never ends. If God is not real, the believer loses very little. They might miss some small pleasures in life.

However, if a person bets against God, the risk is high. If they are wrong, they could lose everything. Pascal thought it was wise to choose the side with the biggest gain.

Many people have different views on this idea. Some say you cannot force yourself to believe just for a prize. Others ask which god a person should choose. Some thinkers say we cannot prove if God is real. Even so, people still study his famous idea today.
