Many people believe it is a land of peace. It is often described as a beautiful garden. Some thinkers say it is a "higher place." This is the opposite of a hard life.

Many different faiths have ideas about paradise. In Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, people believe in a heaven. This is a paradisiacal place for the good. In Hinduism and Buddhism, paradise is a place for those who are very good. They reach higher levels through virtue and meditation.

Old stories also show this idea. Ancient Egyptians believed in a place called Aaru. It was a field for hunting and fishing. The Greeks spoke of the Elysian fields. This was a land of plenty for heroic people.

The word "paradise" may come from an old word for a walled garden. In the past, it meant a royal park or orchard. Today, the idea stays in art and books. It shows a world full of joy and beauty.
